Three Reasons to Tune Into The Real Food Media

Cooking real food, caring about it and accessing it sure can feel like a lonely place sometimes. Some days it just seems the whole world is eating crap and no one cares.

I look around sometimes and shake my head in disbelief at what people eat. It makes me sad and angry what the industrial food system is doing to our planet.

But the good news is that there’s a growing movement back to real, traditional food - food that respects the environment, animals and people.

Just knowing there are so many people who do care, who are creating change, who are sharing their stories, their success and failures can mean so much. I know it does for me.

And that’s why connecting with this movement is so important.

You see when I work with clients, I’m constantly looking for new educational tools. I create handouts, recommend books and have one hundred or so articles bookmarked on my computer.

Nevertheless, when clients stop working with me, despite all my efforts, I often ask myself, “Will they really stick with this?”

I don’t know but I now have a new online resource to share with them to keep them motivated and connected when they’re done working with me.

I’m also excited to tell you about it today.

It’s called the Real Food Media.

What is the Real Food Media?

The RFM is a community of bloggers who use the power of the internet to educate people about real food and connect them to real food sources.

I have just joined the RFM myself and I’m excited to join ranks with this growing online community.

While many of us, including myself, are somewhat new to the blogosphere world, some are quite influential. Take Sarah Pope, whose popular blog, The Healthy Home Economist (one of my favorites) created quite a storm recently when her blog was plagiarized by a Filipino politician.

Others like Nourished Kitchen, Food Renegade and Cheeseslave have been instrumental in spreading the word about real food.

Check out their blogs and others at www.realfoodmedia.com/featured-blogs

You won’t see my blog, Fearless Eating, under the featured bloggers quite yet but maybe someday.

Here are three more reasons to tune in to the RFM:

1. Real Food Classes and E-books

As you may know, I’ve slooooowly been working on developing an online class so that I can extend my reach beyond western MA. But many of those on RFM already have classes and books around various real food topics and you can find them on their respective websites.

In the few weeks since I’ve joined RFM I’ve already been reviewing some of them so that I can recommend them with confidence in the future.

2. Real Food Resources

As a new member of the RFM, you’ll see I have a new resources page on my website. This page brings you dozens of real food related products and information from all across the country. You’ll find things like supplements, fermented food starters, sprouted flours, kitchen tools, personal care products and so much more.

If you can’t find a specific product in your local community, you can probably find it here:

3. Real Food Education

But the best part of RFM is that it’s an easy place to stay connected regarding real food. Support is vital even if it’s coming across your computer screen.

Because unless you live under a rock, you will be bombarded by the politically correct-mainstream nutrition media.

Talk show dietitians will tell you to eat low-fat commercial junk. Talk show doctors will tell you cholesterol is bad for you. Study after pharmaceutical-funded study will warn you against red meat or salt or butter or eggs.

Your friends will think you’re a nut job because you drink raw milk. Your family will roll their eyes at you every time they see you reading a nutrition label (because if you’re into real food this will become an obsessive habit). I could go on and on.

So it’s easy to lose faith in real food, especially if you’re a newbie to the ideas of eating more fat and cholesterol or slathering your veggies with glorious butter and coconut oil. Or maybe you’re just intimidated by learning how to find the time and energy to cook real food amidst the craziness of modern life.

But don’t lose faith! Connect with the bloggers on the Real Food Media. “Like” them on Facebook. Follow them on Twitter and Pinterest. And sign up for their newsletters and RSS feeds.

Tune up and tune in!
